Tell people about the amazing people on your team.
Cre8tive Differences Coalition for Change was born out of necessity. I had lost everything in Hurricane Katrina. I was suffering from PTSD. I turned to drugs. They led me to a point in life where I knew I needed help. I checked myself into rehab. It saved my life. I got properly diagnosed and treated for my PTSD. Entering rehab was scary. I was completely alone, isolated from my family and friends for those first thirty days. I had brought a set of colored pens and pencils with me. Creativity has always been my saving grace. No matter how dark things became, as long as I could "find the funny", things were only temporary, just hold on and I'd make it through it. During my first thirty days, I would write down affirmations and funny one liners to keep me focused. Brice illustrated one of them and "The Road to Recovery Coloring Book" was born. I have always wanted to help people. I threw myself into my recovery, learning as much about addiction as I could. When I learned that 67% of people entering substance abuse treatment return to using within 30 days, I knew I could help. The first 30 days are the hardest. You are alone, without friends or family, trying to kick a habit that has you firmly in its clutches. The concept is simple. Give your conscious mind, the one that all it wants to do is get high, something positive to do, allowing your subconscious mind, the one that has your best interests at heart, time to figure out ways to keep you sober. You're coloring. Being creative and not even realizing you're helping yourself. Now our coloring book won't cure you. Addiction is a complicated and especially pernicious disease. You didn't become addicted in a day. It is going to take time and perseverance until you have your life back. We're here to give you those handy dandy helpful hints to make the journey easier. We are set on becoming a community bettering the lives of those affected by addiction. Our direct outreach projects will think outside of the box for ways to keep our members sober. Through media campaigns we will re educate society what it is to be a person in recovery, improving their public image. The better society sees the person in recovery, the better the person in recovery sees themselves, reducing recidivism. Finally, through media programming we will showcase the courage and perseverance of those in the recovery community, improving the societal view of those in recovery. New breakthroughs are happening every day in the addiction treatment industry. We plan to be there with them.
Cre8tive Differences Coalition for Change's premier program is color therapy. To assist those just starting their journey back to sobriety, we have developed a coloring book- "The Road to Recovery Coloring Book."
It is full of positive affirmations, sayings and poems to encourage one during their first 30 days of sobriety.
Two thirds of those who enter rehab end up using again within 30 days. We asked ourselves, "Why?" It is common policy to isolate the newly sober for 30 days. It keeps away negative influences and individuals who will urge the individual into using again. It's great in theory. In actuality, you are isolating them with the one person who is the most likely to get a person using drugs, themselves. The author of "The Road to Recovery Coloring Book" found this very true during his time in rehab. He would come up with these sayings and affirmations to keep his spirits up and his eye on his goal. It worked.
He made it to 30 days and remains sober today.
We give the addict's conscious mind, the one urging them to use something positive to occupy its time, allowing their subconscious mind time to figure out ways to keep them sober.
Simply another tool to assist one in their struggle for sobriety.
We are donating the books to local rehabilitation centers and recovery projects.
We appreciate any support from all those who share our goals. Together we can make a real difference in people's lives. Donate here.
Our second program involves performance therapy. Michael Arnold was a man who believed entertaining people was a divine responsibility. He believed that those who could entertain were the healers of the world. Through entertainment we show how alike we are by showcasing our differences. He was integral in the creation of this program. The program is simple. We give recovering addicts another choice. Research shows when given a choice addicts choose the greater reward. We supply that reward. We offer an outlet for those in recovery to express their experience in a safe supportive environment. Our program will produce "10 Minute Theatre Festivals." They will consist of 8 ten minute shorts around a central theme. Each short will be written, directed, and performed by our members, all of which have been affected by addiction. After each performance, an industry panel of 5 votes for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Writer, and Best Ensemble. If you would like to support this program, donations are greatly appreciated here:
